A High-power committee set up on the high court’s directions to review the Himalayan Ski Village project in Kullu valley is learnt to have recommended cancellation of the project.
The recommendations of the panel, finalised last week, have been submitted to the government. “Since the project was cleared by the Cabinet, the final decision on its fate will also be taken by the council of ministers,” said a top Tourism Department official.
The state Cabinet, which is expected to meet next week after the two Assembly by-elections slated for November 7, will decide on the fate of the project, which was cleared during the Congress rule.
The committee had visited the site of the project a few months ago and held a public hearing to know views of the locals. The representatives of the company were also present, said Manisha Nanda, principal secretary (tourism).
Nanda is heading the committee.
Of all, 28 issues were broadly been taken into account by the committee. But the basic objection remains on the environmental issues. The committee has serious reservations about adverse impact of the project on the Himalayan ecology and environment.
