The body of slain Kunda circle officer Ziaul Haque was buried in his native village Zuafar on Monday evening, after Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav visited the bereaved family and assured that the government will recommend CBI investigation into his murder.

A CBI investigation was the main demand of the officer's widow Parveen Azad, who had refused to allow the body to be taken for the last rites unless the chief minister gave a personal assurance.

Raja Bhaiyya, who resigned as Food and Civil Supplies Minister earlier in the day and who is one of the accused named in the FIR, had also demanded CBI investigation.

Akhilesh, who visited the family along with Minority Affairs Minster Azam Khan, also handed over two cheques for Rs 25 lakh each, one to the wife and the other to the DySP's father Shamsul Haque. He also promised jobs for Parveen Azad and the slain officer's younger brother Sohrab.

The Chief Minister, who stayed in the village for about half-an-hour, assured: "Those guilty will not be spared irrespective of their stature. We will recommend a CBI probe."

Akhilesh flew from Lucknow to Deoria and then drove to the village. On the way, his cavalcade was stopped by angry villagers who raised slongans against the government. The security officials had to make a detour to reach the house of the slain officer.

Earlier in the day, Director General of Police A C Sharma reached the village and was shown bangles and slippers by a crowd. Later, he took shelter in a room to escape the mob's anger. People had gathered from adjoining districts also.

Earlier, though Haque's body reached the village on Sunday night, Parveen Azad refused to allow the burial. "I will not allow burial of my husband. He has been murdered brutally. I will commit suicide if the CM does not come here and assure a CBI inquiry. I am strong enough to take this action," she had said.
