  • Husband of the slain software engineer Urvashi Dhawale was brought to the city for questioning on Friday. The Pune police said his involvement in the murder was not confirmed and there can be other reasons behind the crime.

Arvind Vamanrao Ghadole, about 35 years, was brought to Pune from Gondiya, where he was detained on Thursday, suspecting his role in Urvashi’s murder on Sus Road. The police had detained Arvind after Urvashi’s family members alleged that she was involved in a property dispute with him.

Senior officers from crime branch and Chatuhshrungi police station questioned Arvind. “So far we don’t have strong clues about the murder. Urvashi’s husband’s involvement is not confirmed,” said assistant commissioner (crime) Sangramsinh Nishadar.

Unidentified persons had brutally murdered Urvashi with sharp weapons around 11.30 pm on Wednesday. According to the police, the assailants kept a close watch on her movements. Daily, before coming home from work, Urvashi used to have dinner at her mother’s house in Chidananda Society, Pashan. On Wednesday night, the assailants stabbed her 12 times on her way home.

Urvashi was staying alone at Swami Samartha Society in Pashan. She was working with a reputed firm at Magarpatta city, Hadapsar. Urvashi and Arvind got married in 2001. Later due to some disputes, Arvind shifted to Nagpur and filed for a divorce in a family court, said the police.
