  • Faced with criticism for delay in showing respect to slain NSG commando Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan on Sunday called on the soldier’s family members here, but a depressed father of Sandeep declined to accept his condolences.

The opposition parties in Kerala have accused the state Government of having shown disrespect to the Kerala-born soldier, who lost his life while combating terrorists in Mumbai, by not sending any minister to his funeral, attended by a large number of people, including Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, here on Saturday.

Achutanandan accompanied by Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan rushed to the city this evening.

As Sandeep’s father Unnikrishnan remained firm that no politician should enter his house and refused to meet the dignatories from his own state, police persuaded Dhanalakshmi, mother of the slain commando, to talk to the guests. Amid continued protests from Unnikrishnan, Balakrishnan gave words of comfort to Dhanalakshmi and Achuthanandan followed him.

Sources close to Unnikrishnan said he even went to the extent of issuing a threat that he would commit suicide if any politician entered his house. He had told his friends that his son, whose valour was witnessed by the entire country, did not belong to Kerala alone but to the entire nation.

No one will understand the value of sacrificeBy: jeeva | 02-Dec-2008 Reply | Forward kerala CM should send his own son(if he has a son) or a close person in NSG
vsBy: rajesh | 02-Dec-2008 Reply | Forward Some comments I saw , it is just with out understanding the situation. It was not fare from VS also that he commented saying even dogs could not have turned to his if it was not sandeep. Dear CM at least you should control your emotion.Dont make it public spat any more, it is shame for keralites and whole country.
dont make public spat anymore.By: Rajesh.R | 02-Dec-2008 Reply | Forward We respect the brave people , We should really stand with sandeeps brave act, We salute the bravery.I am an anti communist, I dont have any sympathy for Achuthanadan as personel, I am really against him as personel. But the incident occured at sandeep house is really needs criticism, We can understand the emotions of a father who lost his son.But the incident that created by unnikrishnan against Kerala CM is Unacceceptable. If unnikrishan really dont want polititians to enter his house why he allowed all karnataka ministers. Only it seems a personal ego working behind it because no ministers from kerala did not attend the funeral and Unnikrishnan was shouting , run the camera when the incident happend .I just cant understand why he shouted to run the camera when he was saying the bad words against CM.We salute the bravery of sandeep and it is unmatchable, but you should really understand He came as CM. If you dont respect CM (any difference in kerala CM or KArnataka CM).
Hail CMBy: Anu | 02-Dec-2008 Reply | Forward He as well as Deshmukh have lived up to their posts as CMs (CHEAP Ministers) Hail both of them!
Honorable FatherBy: Parvathi | 02-Dec-2008 Reply | Forward Mr. Ram Chary- lose your only son and have politicians show disrespect and I want to see you say this again. Kindly refrain from making objective remarks. My remark has nothing to do with the mood of the country but is based on basic human values.
