Claiming breakthrough in the Kalkaji murder case, police arrested a 23-year old man for allegedly killing his employer in a fit of rage on Friday.

Deepak, who was hired to take care of the victim’s comatose husband, slit the throat of Vijaya Nindra (65) at her Kalkaji residence, police said on Sunday.

He was apparently angry with her for slapping him for not adding enough salt in the food, they said.

Deepak was arrested on Saturday and police said they have recovered the kitchen knife used in the offence.

“Nindra had hired Deepak 8-10 days ago to take care of her ill husband. On Friday, she felt that salt in the vegetable was not enough,so she insulted and slapped the accused. Deepak became infuriated and pushed Nindra from the sofa on to the floor. He then slit her throat with a kitchen knife,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East) Ajay Choudhary.

A day before the murder also,Nindra,a retired school principal, had reportedly slapped and insulted the accused after he spilled some tea on the floor, authorities said.

The accused confessed about the murder during interrogation, but not before he tried to put police off track by pining the blame on others who had worked in the same house earlier.

“After slitting Nindra’s throat,he washed his hands and the kitchen knife and called the police. He also tried to mislead the police by blaming Nindra’s previous servants,Raj Kumar and Vijay alias Dharmender, who had visited the victim’s house to collect their balance money,” police said.

To throw police probe off track,Deepak also told them that he did not know them but he had a tussle with one of them before he fled from the house.

The accused told police that Nindra used to insult and slap him over petty mistakes and the way he performed domestic chores.

“The other servants said Nindra was very strict and especially particular about her husband’s needs. He is in coma for the past eight years and needs constant attention. Deepak said he felt bad that while he was taking care of the entire cleaning and other chores of Nindra’s husband, she did not respect the servants at all. This reached a tipping point on Friday and he killed her,” an official investigating the case added.
