Slow MC makes dream rains a nightmare

In fact,the roads in some sectors were dug up months ago and yet the work has not been completed.

After rains the residents find it difficult to commute in these areas. Work does not take place during the rains.

After the advent of the monsoons the work for carpeting would be stopped.

With the monsoons expected in a week’s time,the situation would not augur well for the civic body.

The city today received 36.2 mm rainfall after which water was seen collected at some places.

While the officials of the Municipal Corporation claim to have started work on cleaning more than 31000 road gullies,water could be seen accumulated at some places.

The civic body has not been able to complete construction of the parking lot outside its own office in Sector 17.

The area for the parking lot was dug up almost a year back.

The carpeting has still not been done.

The area fills up with water with every shower making it slushy.

This leaves no space for the residents to park their vehicles.

Subsequently vehicles are parked along the roads creating chaos.

Another pending task is the construction of the bridge at Manimajra.

The civic body has now decided to construct a wall around it so that during monsoons the situation does not turn dangerous.

An official of the Municipal Corporation says that attempts are being made to complete the work of road carpeting in the next few days.

He,however,said that due to showers at regular intervals work was getting delayed.
