Madan Lal Kapoor, chairman, Small Traders’ Board, Punjab, said that the problems faced by small traders would soon be redressed. He said Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal would soon look into their grievances.

Kapoor was addressing a meeting of the small traders of the district at the Circuit House today. He also heard out the problems faced by different associations of the traders.

Kapoor said that they were holding meetings with small traders in all the districts of Punjab and meetings in five districts in this regard had already been completed.

In the meeting, the traders demanded that entry tax on sugar should be withdrawn. They rued that they had to pay four per cent tax on pulses but this tax was only 1% in Haryana and Rajasthan while there was no tax in Delhi on pulses. Traders demanded that tax should be reduced to 1% in Punjab like other states.

Traders said that they were fined Rs 100 per day in case of filing late return of VAT. They demanded login must be opened immediately after paying fine. They also demanded that decision of appeals should be done within three months.

On this occasion, DP Chandan, Vice-Chairman, Small Traders Board, Param Pal Singh, DETC, Rishi Pal Singh AETC-1, PK Sharma AETC-2, HL Bansal AETC-3, Swaran Singh, member, Small Traders Board, Arwinder Singh Makkar, president, Veopar Mandal were present.
