The city shall soon be under the complete surveillance of CCTV cameras, as the administration is setting up hi-tech control rooms at three locations — Sector 17 police station and Sector 36 for markets’ surveillance and at Sector 29 traffic police lines for keeping an eye on traffic.
With Zicom Electronics Security Systems securing the Rs 4.5 crore contract for installing the CCTVs, the control rooms will cost Rs 24 lakh.
Fourteen fixed cameras and 10 PTZ (pan tilt zoom) cameras at Sector 17 market, six fixed cameras at Sector 35 market and eight PTZ cameras in Sector 22 market have already been installed and installation is going on at 20 intersections including Dakshin Marg and Madhya Marg.
The coverage of 20 traffic junctions under the CCTV surveillance system will be based on an Internet-Protocol (IP) network. The control rooms are equipped with a screen for viewing and recording the incidents. Cameras in the control rooms can be accessed through a password.
Government officials said the company will be responsible for total maintenance of the equipment and recording facilities for 10 years, including first three years of free maintenance.
The cameras will transmit the recorded videos to respective control rooms - Sector 29 control room (for viewing the recordings of 20 intersections); Sector 17 control room (for monitoring recordings of Sector 17 and 22) and Sector 36 control room (for monitoring Sector 35 market recordings).
