The CID (Crime) has moved an application in Ahmedabad Metropolitan Court seeking arrest warrants against seven absconding policemen who are allegedly involved in the Sohrabuddin fake encounter case.
According to CID sources, following the arrest of six policemen, including three IPS officials, other officials have proceeded on leave to evade arrest. The three IPS officials arrested are DIG D G Vanjhara, SP Rajkumar Pandian and Rajasthan SP Dinesh M N. They have been sent to judicial custody. Their police remand ended on May 8. The agency also arrested Inspector N H Dabhi, head constable Santaram Sharma and armed constable Ajay Parmar of the Anti-Terrorist Squad. They are under police remand till May 19.
The seven cops against whom the CID has sought warrant issued under Section 70 of the CrPC include four from the Gujarat Police and three from Rajasthan.
They are M L Parmar, Deputy SP; B P Chaube, Inspector; N P Chauhan, Sub-Inspector; V A Rathod, Inspector; Abdul Rehman Sheikh, Inspector; Shyam Singh Charan, Sub-Inspector; and Himanshu Singh Rajavan, Sub-Inspector. The last three are from the Rajasthan Police.
According to CID sources, these officials have gone underground ever since top officials were arrested on April 24 at Gandhinagar. The agency had issued notices to them for interrogation but none showed up, which forced the CID to approach the court to obtain the arrest warrants.
“We will have the complete picture of the case once all the officials connected with the offence are arrested and interrogated,” said a senior official involved in the investigation. “During the police remand of the arrested officials, we have been able to get crucial details about the case. But there still remains some missing links, which could be provided by the policemen yet to be arrested,” an official added. Chief Metropolitan Magistrate will take up the case on May 25.
