In an apparent bid to make up for its “disjointed” chargesheet in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case, the CID (crime) is all set to file a supplementary chargesheet soon.
While the first chargesheet against 13 policemen accused in the fake encounter killing of Sheikh and his wife Kausar Bi was filed before a metropolitan magistrate on July 16 this year, investigations into the case continued and the supplementary chargesheet will include additional findings gathered over a one-and-a-half month period after July.
“The supplementary chargesheet will have crucial additional evidence that could not be covered in the first chargesheet because of the time constraints,” Inspector General of Police CID (crime) Geetha Johri, said.
Incidentally, the first chargesheet was severely criticised by the Supreme Court and the media.
The supplementary chargesheet was expected to be stronger as it would include detailed accounts of the accused’s mobile phone records at the time of the incident and findings of further probes into Kausar Bi’s murder and disposal of her body at Illol and the role of seven policemen from Hyderabad who were listed as absconders in the first chargesheet.
Recently suspended Gujarat police Deputy SP N K Amin, who is accused of playing a role in disposing of Kausar Bi’s body, is according to the CID a crucial link in the sequence of events that occurred between November 26, 2005, when Kausar Bi was taken away from Disha farm near Gandhinagar and November 29, 2005, when her body was cremated at suspended DIG D G Vanjhara’s native village Illol.
