Postgraduate students of Delhi University's School of Open Learning (SOL) whose admission had been cancelled because of delay in declaration of results of undergraduate courses, have been allowed to take the semester examination starting Thursday, university officials said.
"The court has allowed them to take the examination. We will follow the court's directions," Delhi University registrar Alka Sharma said.
Owing to the delay in declaration of results, around a 100 SOL students had been barred from appearing for the semester examination. "The university had given us a notice stating that the postgraduate admissions of students whose results have not been declared by August 31 will be cancelled," a senior SOL official said.
Deepak Dabbas, a first-year MCom student at SOL, said, "My BCom results were declared on October 26. I was told by SOL officials that due to this, our admissions were cancelled. Hence, we did not get admit cards to take the first semester exams."
Following this, Deepak, along with three other MCom students — Mohit Naran, Geeta Yadav and Yashika Verma — approached the court. "The matter of our admission being cancelled is yet to be settled. But we have been allowed to sit for tomorrow's exam," Dabbas said.
A student of MA Sanskrit, Shakuntala Devi, said, "I studied BA at SOL and my final year results have not yet come. I was told that my MA admission has been cancelled since August 31 was the last date for submitting the graduation results. Had we been notified of this earlier, we would not have taken admission in PG courses. Not all of us have the financial support to approach the court."
Officials at SOL also stated that the delay in publication of results of undergraduate courses had led to the situation. "Till last year, the university used to give an extension for submission of graduation marksheets. But that has not happened this time," the official said.
