The UT police registered a case against a resident of Sector 34 who allegedly cheated the son a Sub-Inspector of Punjab Police of Rs 7 lakh with a promise to immigrate him to Canada. The accused Shilpa Arora is absconding.
Arora had promised Gurwinder Singh, a resident of Police Lines Sangrur, that she would help him immigrate to Canada. In order to do the same, Gurwinder handed Shilpa Rs 7 lakh. As a guarantee, Shilpa gave the complainant a blank cheque saying that if she fails to help him, he may take his money back. However, since Shilpa was unable to send Gurwinder to Canada, he used the cheque to withdraw the money he had deposited with Arora which bounced. Since then, she is absconding.
Man cheated of Rs 6 lakh
In another incident of cheating, Rajesh Kumar a resident of Sector 22, alleged that Narender Pal a resident of Sector 21 cheated him of Rs 6 lakh. The accused had taken the money from the complainant for selling him a booth in Sector 22-C.
The exact cost of the booth was Rs 26 lakh, for which Rajesh Kumar had given Rs 6 lakh in cash as token money. Later Rajesh found that the booth was initially registered by the name of Tilak Ram and was later resumed by the MC. A case has been registered.
Thieves break into home, beat owner
Chandigarh:The UT police registered a case on the complaint of Vikram Dev Singh, an IT professional and resident of Transport Society, Sector 50. Reportedly, three persons broke into his house early morning on Sunday and beat him when he raised an alarm. The unidentified persons stole Vikram's phone as they fled.
One held for attempt to suicide
Chandigarh:The UT police has booked a person on charges of attempt to suicide. Bipan Kumar (32), a resident of Sector 41, was trying to hang himself from the ceiling fan when one of the neighbors spotted him. During investigation, Bipan said that he had taken the step as he was fed-up of his matrimonial disputes.
