Actress Sonam Kapoor, who would be reprising the character of Rekha from Hrishikesh Mukherjee's Khubsoorat, says, she will bring a modern touch to the iconic role.

The 27-year-old has been roped in to play the female lead in the remake of the 1980 hit. The classic comedy is best remembered for Rekha's portrayal as a vivacious and fun-loving girl.

"We are taking the spirit of the character and giving it a modern setting. We are modernising it, we are taking the spirit and energy of the girl but we are not sticking to the same story line. We are making it more current and new," Sonam Kapoor said.

Before starting the shoot, the young actress has taken blessings from Rekha.

"I did meet her, I got her blessings. I met her at Jab Tak Hai Jaan premiere. She told me its a great film I am doing," Sonam said.

The original was directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee and starred Rekha, Ashok Kumar, Dina Pathak and Rakesh Roshan.

While the remake version will be directed by Shashanka Ghosh and produced by Sonam Kapoor's father Anil Kapoor and sister Rhea.

"I am very excited to work with Shashank Ghosh, who made two fantastic films, which are 'hatke', he started the trend. He is one of my dream filmmakers with whom I wanted to work," Sonam said.

The shooting for this film will commence from August.
