Sonepat dist police creates record, starts filing chargesheets in rape cases in 2-3 days

In regard to a few such rape cases, registered in the district during the last one month, the district police is promptly filing chargesheets.

At Rasoolpur village in Gannaur, a 17-year-old girl had alleged that while she was taking a walk with her mother, two youths — Krishan and Billu — residents of Jafarpur village, abducted and raped her. The police arrested the accused and filed the chargesheet within 48 hours.

In another rape case registered on December 28, 2012, a resident of Uttar Pradesh had alleged that she was raped by three persons, including a photo studio owner, Praveen and his two accomplices, at Mehlana chowk. All three have been arrested and chargesheet filed within three days.

On the same day, a minor was allegedly abducted and gangraped by three youths — Sunil, Akash and Vijay — from near Kalupur octroi post in Sonepat. Acting promptly on the information, the police registered a case, arrested all the three accused and submitted the chargesheet within three days in the court.

In another such case registered on November 21, last year, a youth abducted a resident of Ramnagar (West) and raped her. Acting on her complaint, the police registered a case, arrested the accused within a few hours and submitted the chargesheet in the court within 48 hours.

When contacted, Sonepat district police chief Arun Singh said: "Our first aim is to prevent such crimes against women. But still if any such unfortunate incident happens, we ensure that we arrest the accused promptly and then complete all legal formalities within 48 to 72 hours so that the trial could begin and justice delivered speedily."

"The fast track courts should be set up at the district level, so that all such cases. especially pertaining to heinous crimes against women, could be dealt with expeditiously and criminals punished without any delay," he added.
