Song of Spring

Music lovers braved the brutal chill to reach IIC to hear the Japanese trio of horn player Mizuno Nobuyuki,pianist Matsuoka Mie and violinist Kyoko Saburi perform six classical compositions. The hour long concert opened with Mozart’s Trio Es-dur in KV 407 with the deep,soothing sound of the horn. Some Japanese spectators in the audience clapped loudly when Karatachi-no-Hana (Trifoliate flowers) and Sakura Sakura (Cherry Blossoms) were played,classics from their country representing the sweet scent of the flowers that blossom in spring in Japan. For the younger lot in the audience,it was a whole new experience with Saburi and Matsuoka’s lively rendition of The Red Dragonfly by composer Kosaku Yamada,with the violin hitting just the right notes. The musicians,on their first visit to India were pleasantly surprised that the hall was packed to capacity. “We certainly didn’t expect such a huge gathering,” gushed Tokyo based violinist Saburi,after the concert,svelte in a pink gown. Up next,the trio will perform at Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre on January 9 and Thailand Cultural Centre on January 12.
