Congress candidate for Amritsar OP Soni today held a rally in the bastion of former Cabinet minister Bikram Singh Majithia, where he lambasted the SAD for unleashing terror on his party’s workers. He flayed Sidhu for devoting more time to television laughter shows than to development in his constituency.

“Sidhu is a good cricketer, but he still needs to take lessons in politics,” Soni said.

“What Sidhu does on TV is the job of an actor, not of an MP. An MP should concentrate on developing his constituency,” he said. He said Sidhu was taking credit for the works started by the Congress.

Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh visited the city at least thrice, Soni said, but Sidhu did not bother to meet him even once.

According to Soni, Majithia had begun his tenure as Cabinet minister, but ended up getting fake cases registered against Congress workers.

SRS Lally Majithia, president of the District Congress Committee, Amritsar (Rural), said the Congress would give a befitting reply to the ruling alliance in the parliamentary elections.

Meanwhile, Sidhu, in his rallies held today at 14 booths in Tilak Nagar in the east segment of Amritsar, said development projects got under way only when the SAD-BJP alliance came to power.
