Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K Rosaiah was on Saturday nominated the Congress Legislature Party leader by party chief Sonia Gandhi, bringing down the curtains on the issue of sucessor to late Y S Rajasekhara Reddy who died in a helicopter crash more than two months ago.

Gandhi nominated 77-year-old Rosiah a day after the CLP had met yesterday and authorised her to take the decision.

"In accordance with the unanimous resolution of the CLP, Andhra Pradesh, AICC President is pleased to nominate K Rosaiah as the Leader of the Congress Legislature Party in Andhra Pradesh," senior leader M Veerappa Moily, party in-charge for the state, said.

The announcement by Moily came after he and another senior leader Pranab Mukherjee met Gandhi.

The issue of CLP leader had become ticklish in the wake of 'Jagan-for-CM' campaign by the supporters of Reddy who pressed the party High Command to appoint the late Chief Minister's 37-year-old son and Kadapa MP Y S Jaganmohan Reddy in the top post.

Rosaiah, who had been No.2 in various party governments in the state, was made the Chief Minister after Reddy's death on September 2.

Gandhi's decision was on expected lines after the Congress high command managed to mollify the Jagan camp by giving Reddy's widow Y S Vijayalaxmi a ticket for the assembly bypoll from the Reddy family pocketborough of Pulivendula.

The high command also persuaded Jaganmohan to move the resolution at the CLP meeting yesterday to leave the decision of choosing CLP leader to Gandhi.

Cong: a democratic party !By: Gopal | 29-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward The choice of Mr Rosaiah as CM of AP cannot be faulted. But so long as foisting of CMs as choice of leadership continues, factional feuds also go along. True to its colours, the Cong party never allows natural leadership by choice of elected representatives. Though under the present circumstances, Mr Rosaiah is the best choice, the election of CM should be left to the members of legislature so ensure smooth and effective functioning of the Govt.
It's not Congress! MLAs and MP have to follow party whip.. that's the law!By: ABC | 30-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward Singling out Congress is mere prejudice. No party allows that and should not allow either. Given their choice, those no good MLAs would have elected inexperienced son of Dr. YSR over Rosaiah. If not, they would have elected another Reddy! First they gave tickets on basis of caste. Now you want democracy? That would be hijack of democracy and a mockery!
Oldies sway south!By: Brij Khar | 28-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward Karnunandhi in Tamilnadu, Yedurappa in Karnatka, Achutanadan in Kerala and now Rosiah in AP! Are the southern states becoming bastions of old or are political parties like DMK, BJP, CPM and Congress in south too unwilling to a call on generation next? Ironically everyone across the political spectrum in south appear to stand behind the old?
Rosaiah's Election is a Landmark that every Telugu can be proud of!By: ABC | 29-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward AP politics has been dominated by two castes since formation - Reddy and Kamma. Rosaiah breaks that mold. Only Congress under Sonia's leadership could take such a bold decision. Rosaiah may be old but very energetic. He will serve the state well for the rest of the term. All he has to do is fulfill YSR's promises.
