Sonia: we ‘forced’ Pak to admit 26/11 truth

Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, in an apparent reference to cross-border terrorism, said on Sunday that any attempt to weaken the country would not be tolerated at any cost.

Addressing a rally here, Sonia said some forces that are not happy with India's progress "were trying to create obstacles from time to time" and terrorism was one such hurdle. Such obstacles must be defeated, she added.

She said India was capable of defeating such evil designs and added that "our restraint should not be treated as our weakness".

Referring to the diplomatic strategy of the UPA Government after the 26/11 attacks, she said: "Pakistan was forced to speak out the truth due to the diplomatic pressure exerted by us on the country." She added that the diplomatic pressure on Pakistan forced it to act on terrorist activities perpetrated from its soil.

Lambasting the India Shining campaign of the NDA, she said that progress of the country went off the track during the previous government's tenure. "Some people were not able to digest our success and are trying to mislead the people by launching misinformation against the UPA government," she said and asked the audience to be extra careful about such forces.

Referring the global economic meltdown, the UPA chairperson said global recession had no impact on the Indian economy as the growth rate was on fast track during the UPA's tenure.

Highlighting measures taken by the UPA Government, she said there was tremendous progress in the field of education and health, which are the backbone for the country's development. "Our effort is to provide quality education, which was a dream of former prime minister late Rajiv Gandhi," she added.
