In an unlikely comparison, the BJP president Nitin Gadkari while taking on the UPA government on corruption on Thursday likened the Congress president Sonia Gandhi with the government in neighbouring Pakistan.

“If Pakistan talks about fighting against terrorism,no one believes it. It is the same for Congress president Sonia Gandhi when she talks about wiping out the corruption from the country,” Gadkari said.

Focussing his attack primarily on the Congress president, currently recuperating in the US after a surgery,Gadkari said,“If Sonia Gandhi is strict about her stand (on corruption),she should take action against Chief Minister of Delhi,Shiela Dixit, for her involvement in CWG big loot.”

Gadkari, who was addressing a rally organised by BJP in Fazilka, also took on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, saying,“The PM is in ‘silent mode’ on corruption-related issues and there is no idea when this mode will change.”

Shanta Kumar, the party vice-president,added,“The banks in Switzerland are ready to give back the black money to the respective countries, but our PM is not ready to initiate any action as it will reveal names of many corrupt politicians whose money is parked in these banks.”

Both the leaders urged masses to vote judiciously in the forthcoming assembly elections in Punjab.

Later,Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal while congratulating the residents on Fazilka gaining the status of district, said,“Soon, the chief architect of Punjab will visit Fazilka so as to change the skyline of the city.”

Targeting the central government Badal said that the Congress leaders often give statements about funds being released for the central schemes. “I want to clarify that Centre is not doing any special favour. It is our right. Still they are giving us just peanuts because of the reasons best known to them,” Badal said while blaming the Congress for not setting up enough storage houses for grains in Punjab.

Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal highlighted the achievements of the SAD-BJP government and stated that they will be setting up gymnasiums in all the villages of Punjab soon. Fazilka legislator,Surjit Kumar Jayani, cabinet minister Tikshan Sud,Manoranjan Kalia and other leaders were also present in the meeting.
