Even as a consensus over his successor eludes the UPA, outgoing chief minster Shibu Soren was hospitalised on Tuesday after he complained of urinary problems.
A medical report prepared by Apollo hospital superintendent P D Sinha said there was “swelling on his face and legs and the blood pressure was above normal”. Although detailed reports were awaited, Dr Sinha said the JMM chief was recovering and all he needed was rest.
Soren, who had quit as CM on Monday after he lost the Tamar bypoll, was slated to fly to New Delhi on Tuesday with former CM Madhu Koda to work out a consensus on his successor. Amid dissension within the party against Champai, Soren’s eldest son Durga said in case the party’s proposal to install the three-time MLA was not approved by the UPA, JMM was free to make an alliance with the BJP. But BJP’s state unit president P N Singh quickly rejected the overture saying his party was not interested in making any fresh alliances.
