  • South Delhi Police have negated the claims of a letter they received five days ago, in which the unidentified sender said he had seen two people on a motorcycle fighting with the deceased Soumya Vishwanathan on Nelson Mandela Marg on the day of her murder.

District Commissioner of Police (South) HGS Dhaliwal on Thursday said the claims of the sender were false as the said bike riders were nowhere close to the site at the time of the murder. The mobile phone records of the two men also corroborates the fact, police said.

According to Dhaliwal, the author of the letter said he had noted down the registration number of the bike, which had a Punjab number. He also claimed one of the two assailants was wearing a turban.

“The said registration number was traced to Pagwara and a team was sent. The owner of the bike said he had sold the vehicle to a Gurgaon resident. A team was then sent to Gurgaon for interrogating the men in question. They were released after their mobile phone records also revealed that they were not near the site of crime at the time,” Dhaliwal said.

The police were also investigating the possibility of the involvement of a Scorpio car. DCP Dhaliwal said the owner was taken into custody and was released, after the police could not find anything against the owner and gave him a clean chit.

Working as a producer with a popular English news channel, Soumya Vishwanathan was found shot dead in her car in the early hours of September 30.

    ... contd.
