Congress warns industry against ‘flirting with right wing’

After top industrialists attended Vibrant Gujarat Summit, a show of strength by CM Narendra Modi, Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari said Saturday corporate India should realise implications of "flirting with right wing".

Ambani brothers Mukesh and Anil not only attended the sixth biennial summit organised by the Gujarat government but also praised Modi, so did other industrialists and representatives of the US, UK, Japan, Canada, China, Denmark and Taiwan.

"Such statements were also made before the 2009 election, but Congress came back to power. In the '30s, the industry and corporate sector of Germany had similar fascination with a leader at the helm of affairs there. The consequences were disastrous for Europe," said Tewari, on his first visit to Mumbai after taking charge of the ministry of information and broadcasting.

He said: "Corporate India will be well-served to keep distance from such a leader."

Tewari said even in basics such as FDI, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka had better figures than Gujarat.
