SP dissolves all its youth wings for reform

The Samajwadi Party today dissolved the executive bodies of national and state units of its four youth frontal organisations — Lohia Vahini, Chhatra Sabha, Yuvjan Sabha and Mulayam Singh Youth Brigade — and also removed their presidents.

All four executives were constituted in May last year.

Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, who is state SP president, is also in charge of these frontal organisations.

An official statement said that the party's national general secretary Ramgopal Yadav, with permission from SP president Mulayam Singh Yadav, had dissolved the national executives and removed the presidents of all four frontal organisations. It also said that Akhilesh had also dissolved the state executives and presidents of the state units of the four organisations.

The party did not give any reason for the action. However, Rajendra Choudhary, state spokesperson of SP, said that these frontal organisations had been dissolved so that they could be constituted afresh.

As the news spread, several youth leaders and workers arrived at the SP headquarters at Vikramaditya Marg. Mulayam was present at the party office but he did not discuss the developments.

"Not much should be read in these developments. It is a routine matter. Some youth leaders may get additional responsibility," Choudhary told a group of youth workers.

Sources in the party said that several senior party leaders, including ministers, had complained against the working of certain youth leaders. They were allegedly influencing government contracts, calling up officials for various purposes and throwing their weight around.

Some senior leaders also reportedly complained that the youth leaders did not treat them with due respect and flaunted their association with the chief minister.

"While reconstituting the executive, such persons may be dropped. If these leaders were singled out and removed, intensive lobbying would have started for getting their posts," said a leader.
