Accepting the UP Chief Minister Mayawati’s challenge of organising fresh protest against her government

More agitations Mulayam congratulates party workers for the success of 72-hour stir

Accepting the UP Chief Minister Mayawati’s challenge of organising fresh protest against her government,the Samajwadi Party on Saturday announced a day-long statewide agitation on March 17. However,this time the agitation will be in rural areas where SP workers will burn the effigies of the Chief Minister and mobilise public opinion against the “corrupt and autocratic” BSP government.

Mayawati on March 10,in a warning to the Samajwadi Party — she had specifically named Mulayam Singh — had said that her government would deal firmly with any attempt to create law and order problem in the state. She had said it would be worse for SP if it decided to launch agitation against her government.

Addressing a meeting of the partymen here on Saturday,SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav said,” We accept the challenge. Do what she hates the most ¿ burn her effigies in every nook and corner of UP,and do this pious work before the ceremonial fire of the Holi festival.”

Mulayam Singh said this while addressing the meeting of the district presidents and MLAs,MLCs of the party here today to review the party’s three-day agitation that concluded on Wednesday.

Ridiculing the CM’s warning,the SP supremo said,“Samajwadi Party has over 600 leaders of the stature of Mayawati,she will have to first face those leaders then only can she touch me.”

Congratulating the party leaders for the success of the recent agitation SP chief said,“It is a matter of great achievement for the party that despite the tyranny unleashed by the Mayawati government,the party cadres remained undeterred.” He added the brutal police action against SP workers has exposed the insecurity of the UP Chief Minister.

Criticising the police officers for the atrocities on the party workers during the agitation,SP chief said,“The police officers should not have acted like the private army of the ruling party. We will ensure these officers are held accountable for their blatant illegal actions when SP comes to power in 2012.”

Later talking to the reporters,the leader of Opposition Shivpal Singh Yadav said,“SP’s campaign against the autocratic BSP regime will continue. Like the previous agitation,the protest on March 17 will remain peaceful with focus on rural areas.” He said the protest will also be in urban areas also but this has been left at the discretion of the district units to organise the agitation.

State SP president Akhilesh Yadav said the party will lodge a complaint with the National Human Rights Commission against the atrocities by Lucknow DIG DK Thakur against SP workers on March 9. If required,the party will also approach the court,he added.
