The Azamgarh police arrested Samajwadi Party MLA Durga Prasad Yadav on Wednesday for allegedly assaulting a government official. He was produced before the CJM court and sent to jail. Yadav, who lost in the Lok Sabha election from Sadar constituency, is a history-sheeter (no 58-A) of the Kotwali police station. O P Srivastava, Azamgarh ASP, said: “On February 20, Senior Superintendent (Postal department) S N Sharma had lodged an FIR at Kotwali alleging that Yadav and his aides had stormed into his office and assaulted him.” Sharma had also alleged that Yadav was forcing him to reinstate a woman employee suspended for dereliction in duty. As Sharma refused to follow the diktats, the MLA attacked him, Srivastava added.
