SP not to field candidates against Rajnath

Samajwadi will not field any candidate in Ghaziabad against BJP president but will support a 'secular' candidate against him.

The Samajwadi Party on Tuesday announced that it would not field any party candidate in Ghaziabad against BJP president Rajnath Singh but would support a “secular” candidate against him.

“We will not field any candidate against BJP president Rajnath Singh in Ghaziabad. But we will help the secular candidate there to defeat him,” SP general secretary Amar Singh told reporters in New Delhi.

He also said SP will not field any candidate in Mathura against RLD chief Ajit Singh’s son Jayant Chaudhry,but would ensure RLD’s defeat there.

Both BJP and RLD are contesting the Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh together.

Apart from Rae Bareli and Amethi,SP has now left Ghaziabad and Mathura also for Congress as per the seat sharing agreement between the two parties in Uttar Pradesh for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.

On being asked about the current status of SP’s relationship with Congress,Singh said that his party had “no fight with Congress… We gave them 17 seats but they did not take it. They have to think about the future”.
