SP to fight for 100 seats in state

Samajwadi Party (SP) will contest on 100 seats in the Gujarat Assembly elections due by year-end. Announcing its participation, former union minister and party leader Ramjilal Suman said they started doing groundwork across the state for the upcoming polls.

Suman along with party's national general secretary Vishamber Prasad addressed the party workers in a meeting in Godadra area of the city on Tuesday.

The party started exercise of scrutinising each constituency and its local issues. Even the candidate selection procedures were begun, the leaders said.

Addressing mediapersons here, Ramjilal Suman said, "We are going to contest on 100 seats in Gujarat and without support of Congress party. Our poll manifesto will be the same as we have used in UP polls. Akhilesh Yadav government is the role model for us and we will implement same development schemes in Gujarat. We will come up with different development policies keeping in mind the lower-middle-class and the middle-class people."

"People of Gujarat are fed up of Congress and BJP and they need more options. So we are here to give them support and justice," he said.

Attacking on Chief Minister Narendra Modi, Suman said, "He (Modi) is famous for his role in 2002 Godhra riots. We will not play caste-base politics but we will go ahead with local issues. Our national leaders like Mulayam Singh Yadav, Akhilesh Yadav, Azam Khan will visit the state in coming days and will do campaigning of our candidates."

The party also took out a rally at Godadra in the evening.
