The Gujarat Council of Science City has announced its plan to install an exhibit on space exploration in the State Level Energy Park, being developed at the Science City in Ahmedabad.

The exhibit, ‘Vyom- Exploration of Space,’ will be set up inside the Science City premises under the Special Area Demonstration Program of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Union Government.

A R Mohanty, Chartered Engineer at Science City, Ahmedabad, said: “When we talk about energy from space, it mainly refers to ways and means of concentrating solar energy into space using satellites equipped with Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) systems”.

He added: “The CSPs are huge parabolic mirror systems which focus a large area of sunlight into a concentrated beam, which is then used as a heat source for a conventional power plant. So our prototype will have a CSP Satellite concentrating solar energy into a high intensity beam, transmitting it to Earth, which will then be shown being used as the heat source. The exhibit will come up very soon”.

The State Level Energy Park, which will house the CSP exhibit, is a joint effort of MNRE, Gujarat Energy Development Agency and the Gujarat Council of Science City. It will be the first State Level Energy Park of Gujarat. It is being built at the cost of Rs 1.6 crore and is spread over a hexagonal grid area of about 9,000 sq. m.

While explaining the objectives of the Energy Park, Mohanty said: “This is being done with an aim to demonstrate the efficacies of renewable sources of energy, to spread awareness while highlighting their needs and also to promote the use of renewable energy devices”.
