Instituto Cervantes, the Spanish cultural centre in Hanuman Road ,is planning a fiesta to celebrate Spanish day on Saturday. The event will simultaneously be held in 73 centres across 42 countries. Around 20 years ago,the Spanish language was non-existent in India. It was only taught in Hyderabad and Jawaharlal Nehru University in Delhi . Today, the situation has changed dramatically. Last year, around 1,000 people trooped in for celebrations at the Delhi centre. By 2050,the US is pegged to become the largest Spanish-speaking country in the world, said Oscar Pujol,Director of the centre. You can brush up your Spanish with words such as añoranza (yearning) and sonrisa (smile) during a word shower at 11 am,swing a leg in a Flamenco workshop, watch dancer Soraya Franco from the Dominican Republic depict a poem through lucid moves, and swivel the Chilean red wine or Cuban mojito in the evening.
