After tabling its general trade licence policy, South Municipal Corporation is ready with the draft of its new health trade licence policy.
The corporation has included the slimming centres, laser treatment centres and beauty clinics in their health trade policy.
"Earlier only gyms and salons had to seek licences. Those drafting the health trade policies did not factor in specialised beauty clinics. These clinics charge huge sums for beauty treatments and are not under the ambit of the licence policy. We aim to bring these clinics under the licence policy this time," a senior corporation official said.
The corporation has also included spas and massaging centres in the new policy. "These centres are drawing a lot of customers. Many offer specialised treatments which attract an expat clientèle. These commercial centres have escaped the licensing policy till now. But now we are widening the net to bring these centres within the purview of the licence policy," the official said.
Corporation officials said the licence fee of these beauty salons should be kept on the higher side. "The cosmetic industry is growing day by day and these centres do brisk business. They, unlike general traders, are in a luxury business. We have thought over the licence fee and we believe it should be kept on the higher side," the official said.
When contacted N K Yadav, municipal health officer, said the draft of the new heath licence policy was ready and would be tabled in the standing committee soon.
