Spate of thefts at houses in Udham Singh Nagar

  • A spate of thefts have been reported from at least four houses in the Shaheed Udham Singh Nagar colony near the Lions Bhawan in the early hours of Monday.

    Thieves fled with a motorcycle from a house while a purse containing some uncounted cash was stolen from the other.

    According to the residents, some unidentified thieves entered some houses in the colony between 12.30 am and 3 am last night. The residents said that it was around 4 am, when a resident H S Sodhi got up. He found his house bolted from outside. When he went to another room of his house, he found it ransacked. From here the thieves had stolen the purse of Sodhi's wife.

    He raised the alarm and when the other residents woke up, three other houses were also found to be ransacked.

    A motorcycle has been stolen from the house of one Digvijay.

    The thieves made unsuccessful attempts at the houses of a retired army colonel Chanan Singh Dhillon and one Girish Gupta.

    Bittan Kumar, in-charge of Kitchlu Nagar police post along with a dog squad and finger prints experts came to investigate the thefts. However, no breakthrough has been reported so far.

    Navneet Bahri, general secretary of the Shaheed Udham Singh Welfare Association, told Newsline that for the last week there has been a spate of thefts in and around their colony.

    He has sought increased police patrolling in the area.
