Saregama,in association with the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting,recently launched the album Jaya Hey to commemorate Gurudev Rabindranath Tagores 150th birth anniversary. This album represents Tagores prestigious work that ranges from his paeans to nature to songs about his political concerns and beliefs.
India with its rich culture and heritage displays immense diversity; and its national anthem Jana gana mana written by this Nobel laureate articulated his philosophy of universal brotherhood and love in five verses written in the praise of the nation. The National Anthem is just the first verse out of these. In this album,for the first time,all five original verses have been unveiled.
Jaya Hey is sung by 39 celebrated Indian artistes like Kavita Krishnamurthi Subramaniam,Roopkumar Rathod,M Balamuralikrishna,Srinivas,Ghulam Mustafa Khan,Pt. Shivkumar Sharma,Sonu Niigaam,Girija Devi,Soumyojit and Sourendro,Hariharan,Usha Uthup,Leslie Lewis,Lakhkhan Das Baul,Pt. Vishwamohan Bhatt,K.S.Chitra,Lopamudra Mitra,Jagjit Singh,Dr L.Subramaniam,Sunidhi Chauhan,Pt.Hari Prasad Chaurasia and P Susheela are among the singers.
The verses have also been transcreated into English by Jayabrato Chatterjee and recited by Harshavardhan Neotia,Chairman of the Ambuja Realty Group for ease of understanding. The music directors,Sourendro Mullick and Soumyojit Das,have experimented in this album with musical genres like Blues,Jazz,folk etc. The idea was to bring the poet out of a parochial shell and to reach out to youth as well as audiences beyond Bengal. Some of Indias top musicians and singers have rendered Tagore for the first time in their musical careers.
The album is priced at Rs. 299. It is also being released as a Premium Pack as well,with an Audio CD and a DVD. The DVD contains the music video that showcases all 39 artistes performing the complete song. The Premium Pack is priced at Rs. 790.
