Bihar CM Nitish Kumar on Sunday said he was waiting for a call from the Prime Minister for taking up the issue of grant of special status to his state. The state needs it (special status), he said.
The CM was here to participate in JD(U)s two-day national executive meeting. His request has so far not drawn any response from the PM.
He said he had sought an appointment from the PM in his letter sent on May 24 wherein he had placed several demands, including special status for Bihar and financial package for Kosi reconstruction and rehabilitation of those uprooted due to the floods last year.
His letter to the Prime Minister stated,You are aware that we have for long requested that a special category status be accorded to Bihar given its poor infrastructure, low tax base, low per capita expenditure, high poverty density and hesitant appetite for private investment.
Kumars letter asks the PM to constitute a special task force under the charge of the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister for monitoring the projects.
