Speeding car crashes into divider, 1 dead

A 35-year-old man was killed and three others injured when their Toyota Fortuner crashed into a divider in Central Delhi on Tuesday.

Police said the three injured were in an inebriated state and that the car was speeding.

The deceased has been identified as Rukam Chand, a resident of Jharoda Village, Burari in North Delhi. The injured have been identified as Narendra Multani (42), resident of Geetanjali Apartment in Mumbai, Kamal Narang (39), resident of Mianwali Nagar, Paschim Vihar, and Vijay (40), resident of MIG, Bahadurgarh.

Police were alerted about the accident at 12.05 am on Tuesday.

Police said the vehicle (DL 3C BX 0936) belonged to a shoe advertisement firm based in Mumbai.

Narendra Multani and Vijay had come to the city a day ago from Mumbai for getting an advertisement deal approved.

Police said, on Monday night, Kamal Narang took Multani and Vijay for dinner to Pandara Road where they allegedly consumed alcohol.

They were returning to Paschim Vihar when the incident took place.

At the Rajesh Pilot Marg- Prithviraj Road crossing, Rukam Chand, who was allegedly speeding, lost control and crashed into the divider.

The car somersaulted thrice before finally landing upside down. Police said the impact was such that the dividers on either side of the traffic signal broke and the car's bumper was ripped off and flung to the opposite side of the road.

The injured were rushed to Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital where Rukam Chand was declared dead on arrival.

The medical examination of the three injured persons confirmed that they were drunk, police said.

Police said Rukam Chand's post-mortem report was yet to come. It was unclear if he too was in an inebriated state.

A case under IPC Sections 279 (rash driving), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 304(a) (causing death by negligence) has been registered at the Tughlaq Road police station.
