‘Spiritual guru’ held for sexually abusing boys

The Bhosari police have arrested a 34-year-old ‘spiritual guru’,Deepak Vishnu Lamkhande,for sexually harassing six minor boys in his ‘balak ashram shala’ at Shivajiwadi in Moshi.

The Bhosari police have arrested a 34-year-old ‘spiritual guru’,Deepak Vishnu Lamkhande,for sexually harassing six minor boys in his ‘balak ashram shala’ (orphanage) at Shivajiwadi in Moshi. He has been staying in the suburb for the past six months.

Sub inspector Yashwant Rakshe of Bhosari police said,“The accused used to teach students to recite bhajans and train them in pooja rituals besides giving them lessons in harmonium and tabla.”

Police sources said the orphanage was not registered. The boys,originally from Junnar,used to attend the school in the day. The complaint,filed by one of the students,said Lamkhande used to sexually harass them in the night and beat them. It said he also threatened to kill them if they revealed these things to anybody.

“In the first week of November,when one of the boys went home for Diwali,he narrated the incidents to his parents and uncle. His uncle then came here and verified what his nephew had narrated. They lodged a complaint with us on November 20,” Rakshe said. Lamkhande was arrested late on Saturday night. He was produced in the court on Sunday and has been remanded in police custody till Tuesday. He has been charged under Sections 377 (unnatural sex),504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace),323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the Indian Penal Code.
