For many homemakers life ends after marriage but not for Kavita Kansal — who is a caring wife, a loving mother of three and a doting grandmother and above all a bunch of creative energy.
Ask her and she tells you how much she loves to paint and make candles. She is in the city to put her inspired exhibits on display at Sutlej Club.
"Though I suffer from cervical pain and hypertension, painting has done wonders to my physiological and emotional wellbeing.
Whenever I feel little under the weather, I go and start painting and in no time I am as fit as a fiddle," explains Kavita. With poise, she adds, "This is just not with me. At my art classes in Panchkula, I get women in their 60s coming to me to learn art. They also feel the same way as I do. Painting has a therapeutic effect."
Armed with as MA in History of Arts from the Panjab University, Kavita has on display painting done in acrylic with some Tanjavore art thrown in. She has on display paintings depicting Hindu gods, modern art and carton characters for children. "My aim to make all genres of paintings. While I personally like modern art, I paint everything.
Kavita 's forte includes canvas painting, pot painting, Tanjore art , textile paintings and has also picked up various prizes at the Spring Festival held every year at Pinjore and the prestigious Rose Festival of Chandigarh.
Kavita, also knows the art of making floating candles, which are a big hit during Diwali.
