Prakash crashes out
Prakash Amritraj and Kevin Kim lost in the first round of the ATP Challenger tournament in Knoxville after losing 6-2 6-3 to Davey Sandgren and John-Patrick Smith. In singles, Somdev Devvarman is seeded sixth and will play Roko Karanusic of Croatia first up.
Phelps fails to qualify
Michael Phelps failed to qualify for the finals of the 100m freestyle and 100m backstroke events at a World Cup short-course meet while wearing an old-style swimsuit. Phelps finished 16th in the qualifying round of the 100 freestyle in 47.77 seconds. In the 100 backstroke, Phelps was disqualified.
Lalrindika scores brace
India squandered a 3-1 lead to go down 4-3 to Oman in their third Group C match in the AFC Under-19 Championships qualifiers at Arbil, Iraq. Oman scored through Abdullah Basim, Khalil Ibrahim, Abdullah Sarif and Abdullah Saif while Lalrindika (two) and Akshay Kumar found the target for India.
Indian Oil in semi-final
Indian Oil Mumbai beat Rail Coach Factory, Kapurthala 2-1 to enter the semi-finals of the 26th Surjit Hockey tournament. In another match, Punjab and Sind Bank beat Indian Air Force, Delhi, 6-3.
Jwala-Diju win opener
Indian mixed doubles pair Jwala Gutta and V Diju won their opening round of the Hong Kong Super Series against English duo Chris Adcock and Gabrielle White 17-21 21-15 21-12. In singles, world No 6 Saina Nehwal, seeded 8th, opens against Jie Yao of Netherlands. India No 2 Aravind Bhat will not have it easy against Chinese Bao Chunlai.
