Illumination of historical structures, guided tours and cultural heritage programmes are some of the activities that have been initiated by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation as part of the World Heritage Week celebration in the city between November 19 and 25.
Important monuments and heritage structures like Astodia Gate, Delhi Darwaza, Sardar Patel Bhawan heritage building, Bhadra Gate, Teen Darwaza, Siddi Sayyed and Manek Bruj will be illuminated as a part of the celebrations.
The highlight will be a guided tour for about 500 municipal schoolchildren to the City Museum and Sanskar Kendra. Around 70-80 students will be taken on the tour every day for a week. Hoardings depicting slogans to encourage preservation of historic heritage have also been put up at various locations in the city.
For students, a quiz competition will be conducted on "Historic Heritage of Ahmedabad" this week. AMC will also be collaborating with the ASI for organising cultural heritage programme at Sarkhej on November 23.
"The main purpose of celebrating the Heritage Week is to generate awareness on our cultural heritage, which leads to its preservation. It is also significant when we are working towards acquiring World Heritage City status for Ahmedabad," said P K Vasudevan Nair of AMC's Heritage Cell.
