Srikrishna committee members hurt minority sentiments: Lawyer

Court has directed the police to conduct an inquiry into the alleged remarks made by two members of the Justice Srikrishna Committee.

A local court has directed the police to conduct an inquiry into the alleged remarks made by two members of the Justice Srikrishna Committee that minorities were not interested in the movement for separate Telangana,a lawyer said today.

Following a private complaint filed by advocate Mohd Vali-ur-Rahman,who is also the General Secretary of Telangana People’s Forum, the Second Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court today asked the police to conduct inquiry and file report within a month.

Rahman alleged that Committee members Abusaleh Shariff and Ravinder Kaur had said in interview to a local news channel that members of two minority communities were more interested in their development rather than participating in the movement for separate Telangana.

“By doing so the Committee members have hurt the religious sentiments of the community,as majority of the members of the community were in fact in favour of statehood for Telangana,” Rahman said, adding,he himself had made a detailed presentation before the Committee earlier.

The Committee, headed by the former Supreme Court Judge Justice B N Srikrishna, has submitted its report to the Centre. Union Home Minister P Chidambaram will tomorrow meet leaders of political parties from Andhra Pradesh and present the contents of the report, after which it will be made public.
