The cold wave in the Valley is on a record breaking spree as the previous low of minus 3.8 degrees Celsius was witnessed only 24 hours earlier.

The sub-zero temperatures resulted in a thin layer of ice forming at the peripheries of several water bodies including the Dal Lake. However, the ice melted as the day progressed with the sun shining brightly.

The famous ski resort of Gulmarg,55 kms from here,in north Kashmir and Pahalgam,100 kms from here,in south Kashmir were the coldest places in the valley with a minimum of minus 5.6 degrees celsius.

However, the frontier region of Ladakh continued to be the coldest place in the state with a minimum of minus 16.0 degrees celsius.
