Even as security was beefed up for Kolkata Knight Riders coach John Buchanan after his idea of multiple-captaincy sparked protests across the city, team co-owner Shah Rukh Khan said Sourav Ganguly was the main man of his team.

In an interview to The Telegraph, the actor said,“Sourav is our main man. No decision will be taken without his consent and agreement. The whole KKR team respects him no end,so there is no reason to overreact to this right now.”

Shah Rukh said they had been thinking of multiple captaincy last year as well. “Last year,we had contemplated having matches with multiple captains. T20 cricket is a new format and new ideas should be tried,” he said.

He also defended Buchanan. “John Buchanan is not Greg Chappell; the comparison is not fair. Dada is very dear to us and nobody is taking away the captaincy from him or taking him away from the team.”

Meanwhile,Buchanan himself refused to comment on the issue, only saying that he would take a final decision and talk about it in “two days’ time”.
