Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) team co-owner Shah Rukh Khan has appealed to the Alipore Central Jail authorities to allow the inmates to watch the teams Indian Premier League (IPL) matches on television inside the jail premises.
“Please allow the inmates to watch KKR matches, if it is legally permissible. We want them rooting for our team and cheer us all the way. Please allow them to see KKR playing in the final,” Shah Rukh told a television channel at Durban on Tuesday.
The inmates of the Alipore Central Jail had threatened to go on a hunger-strike if cable TV was not installed to allow them to watch Sourav Ganguly & Co in action in South Africa.
Additional Director General (Jail) BD Sharma, however, appears to be unmoved.
“I have already said that it is not possible to install cable TV inside the jail premises due to security reasons. I have heard that Shah Rukh Khan has made an appeal, but no correctional home in the state is allowed to have the cable television network,” he told The Indian Express.
Meanwhile, Khan hoped that his team would get the support of Kolkatans, the controversy over the KKR’s captaincy notwithstanding. “Kolkata is a passionate city. After the captaincy issue, I received quite a few hate mails. But I am not worried. I want them to support us to infuse positive energy in the team,” said the actor.
