The Allahabad High Court today deferred till Monday hearing on a petition seeking a judicial probe into the stampede at the railway station here, in which 37 people were killed and 39 others injured.

A division bench comprising justices Sushil Harkauli and Manoj Misra asked the petitioner, A K Bisen, to "apprise the court under what provisions" an order could be passed for a judicial inquiry into the stampede.

The petitioner, a local lawyer, had also demanded that FIRs be lodged against "erring officers".

Advocate General S P Gupta, who represented the UP government, told the court that a high-level inquiry has already been ordered by the state government.

The stampede took place at the Allahabad Junction on Sunday, February 10.

While the UP government has set up an inquiry committee headed by the Chairman of the Revenue Board, the Railways have ordered a probe by a panel headed by a Railway Board member.
