In Mylapore constituency, senior actor S V Sekhar has been fielded by the AIADMK against DMK’s actor-turned-politician, Napoleon. Sekhar had quit the BJP and joined the AIADMK about a year ago and Napoleon is sitting MLA. Actor Sharat Kumar, a Rajya Sabha member belonging to the DMK, and his actress wife, Radhika, now popular for some of her TV serials, are likely to be key campaigners.

But all eyes are on the ‘Karuppu (black) MGR’, as Vijayakant is called by his fans-turned party lieutenants. The actor would be fielding candidates in almost all the 234 constituencies. Releasing the first list of 140 candidates for the election today, he announced his candidature from Virudhachalam, where he would be sparring with the more powerful AIADMK and PMK candidates.
