Two undertrials freed from train,4 cops injured

LUCKNOW: Two undertrials,being escorted by six policemen from Ghaziabad to Agra aboard the Andhra Pradesh Express,were freed by unidentified men in Mathura district Thursday night. Four of the six policemen were injured by the gunshots fired by the men.

Government Railway Police,Agra,Circle Officer R K Gautam said four constables suffered gunshot injuries. According to GRP officials,several men,who were already aboard the train,entered into the sleeper coach around 7.30 pm and started firing at the policemen. As policemen collapsed,the miscreants pulled the chain of the train and got doen at Farah railway station of Mathura. The undetrials have been identified as Harendra Rana and Dinesh. Agra SSP Shalabh Mathur said both are accused in murder cases.

Metro corpn to spend Rs 25 cr on civil works

LUCKNOW: Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC) will spend Rs 25 crore on civil construction works in the metro rail project development in its current financial year that began November 25 and will close March 31,2014. Principal Secretary of Housing and Urban Planning Sada Kant presided over the first meeting of its board of directors held Thursday. LMRC’s budget for the current financial year was approved by the board today.

In the current financial year,LMRC will get Rs 20 crore from the state government and LDA,Rs 40 crore from UP Housing and Development Board,Rs 10 crore from UP State Industrial Development Corporation and Rs 1 crore was released from the Centre. LMRC will receive Rs 93 crore from different sources. LMRC’s first director Rajiv Aggarwal said Chief Secretary Jawed Usmani Thursday became the director of LMRC .

AU assault case: One student held

ALLAHABAD: The Allahabad police have arrested first-year student Ziauddin in connection with the attack on a university professor on November 29. The arrest follows suspension awarded to Ziauddin and another student,Mohammad Musaddiq,Wednesday after Professor R R Tiwari,head of the J K Institute of Applied Physics and Technology at the university who was attacked along with another professor,gave the administration the names of these two students,which he said he had heard during the attack.

Meanwhile,the Allahabad High Court has directed the Senior Superintendent of Police to appear on December 19 and suggest steps to bring the situation on campus under control. The court has also asked the V-C,Prof A K Singh,to file a personal affidavit with details of the incident. City SP Shailesh Yadav said preliminary probe suggest the violence was the result of anger among students over denying a physically challenged student to appear for his examination.
