The state Cabinet on Wednesday gave its nod to constitute a special purpose vehicle (SPV) exclusively designed for developing the Dholera international airport.
It (SPV) will be headed by the principal secretary,Industries, said government spokesperson and Health Minister Jaynarayan Vyas.
The SPV with an initial corpus of Rs 200 crore has already bagged air space clearance from both the Union Civil Aviation Ministry and the Union Ministry of Defence for developing the airport, he added.
After the initial stages,the SPV could be opened for private participation to carry out development of the airport on the Public Private Partnership (PPP) model,he said.
The state government has already earmarked 1,700 hectares of land for this greenfield airport,proposed near the Dholera Special Investment Region,around 85 kilometres from here,from where considerable portion of the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) passes through.
A lot of domestic and international companies in sectors like logistics,chemicals and dyes have offered to set up their units in the Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR),proposed by the government,which makes it a relevant site for setting up an airport,industry sources said.
