In a bid to promote energy generation through alternative resources,the state government is expected to announce its biomass policy in September,a top government official said on Thursday.

“Draft of the biomass policy is ready and is in final stages of consideration at the government level. The new policy is expected to be announced in September,”

V H Buch,Director Gujarat Energy Development Agency,said.

The Gujarat government plans to generate 1,000 MW of power through biomass. The move will help the state in utilising its several acres of waste land,he said.

Andhra Pradesh has already declared its biomass policy,thereby bringing in clarity on tariff and operational framework,Buch said,while speaking at the seminar ‘Emerging Green Business Opportunities’.

The state has a target of 4,000 MW of energy generation through alternative resources in the next three years,Buch said,adding that the Gujarat government is also planning to introduce a three to six months course on green energy at the ITIs,besides amendment in building by-laws for inclusion of solar power panels.

Tata group flagship company is working on setting up Geo Thermal plant in Kheda district of central Gujarat,he added.
