Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday announced Gujarats resolve to open as many medical colleges as possible,which would thwart the flow of hundreds of crores of rupees into other states.
The government would strive for one medical college in each district,Modi said.
Speaking at the dedication ceremony of Maninagar Medical College,set up by Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation here on Saturday evening,Modi said the state must have enough doctors to spread medical services in every nook and corner,and for that there has to be more medical colleges and more seats.
Speaking of past state governments,he wondered how would they functioned with no science stream in higher secondary schools in half the talukas.
Nursing used to be taught only in Ahmedabad.
Modi said the state government was also planning to involve manufacturers of medical equipment to ensure cheap and better quality equipment for doctors and hospitals.
State Health Minister Jay Narayan Vyas said Gujarat would add at least 1,200 medical seats in the next three years by opening six medical colleges and enhancing intake in existing medical colleges.
City mayor Asit Vora listed civic amenities that were to take shape shortly,such as a seven-story multilevel mechanical parking facility near Kankaria lake,the foundation for which was laid on Saturday.
