
Like every year, this time also the district health department has conducted raids at various sweet shops and their workshops and found that spurious khoya is being used in preparing sweets as the festival of Diwali is approaches nearer. For more than a week, teams of district health department have been conducting raids to check the use of adulterated khoya.
Keeping this in view, Dr Manjinderjit Singh Chief Medical Officer, Ludhiana, has advised the district residents to stay away from sweets this Diwali. The CMO said, “I appeal to all the residents not to eat sweets on this Diwali, as it may lead to health hazards.”
While Dr U S Sooch, Officiating District Health Officer, said, “It is not an easy task for a layman to detect adulterated khoya used in sweets. We also rarely get to know after tasting the sweets. Only the laboratory report can confirm if adulterated khoya has been used or not.”
He further said, “I suggest that people should neither eat not exchange sweets this Diwali. They should go for either fruits and dry-fruits or for juices etc.”
Meanwhile, today also, two teams of the Health Department raided in Jagraon and in the city itself. According to Dr U S Sooch officiating, District Health Officer Ludhiana along with Dr R S Grewal Notified Food Inspectorr conducted a raid at Jagraon on a workshop. According to Dr Sooch, ‘’We took samples of rasgullas and burfi at a workshop near Dana mandi, Jagraon. We have sent these for testing and report will come after 3-4 days.”
