  • The Government is still making up its mind about Indian High Commissioner in London Kamlesh Sharma’s nomination as India’s candidate for the Commonwealth Secretary-General’s post, but did you know it was Britain that first hinted at another candidate, former Foreign Secretary Shyam Saran, to New Delhi? Prime Minister Manmohan Singh seemed inclined but with Sharma getting political backing, Saran may be moved to London or Moscow depending on India’s final decision on its candidate. Washington is out for Saran as Ronen Sen has got another extension. Meanwhile, Nirupam Sen, India’s Permanent Representative at the UN, is all set to get another extension for three months until December this year.
